Post a Memory

So, May 15th is the big 5-0 for my mom. I would love for everyone to post a memory that we can give to her on her birthday!

Leave one memory that you have of Debbie. It doesn't matter if you knew her a little or a lot, recently or long ago-- leave anything you remember. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses and just exactly what people will remember.

  1. I think one of my favorite memories is of our trips to Chicago to see Alina kick it as a Rockette! We would go in the winter for a couple of days and see Wicked, the Rockettes, and of course shop. The best part was when we decided to take the L from Rosemont into Chicago and of all of the great things we did on the trip, I think the L was my mom's favorite part! Her face was one giant smile the whole time. So funny!

  2. I think the most memorable memory I have of debbie was on a thursday night and i was all depressed and bringing the whole place down but tried to hide it. I felt so down and out and i felt like i didnt belong, my mom pretty much buried me in the ground and i just wanted to stay there. But when debbie was like "Chad, come back here with me please" I got scared and was thinking "oh no! i made her mad". but that wasn't the case at all. I told her everything that was going on and she made me feel like i belonged again just by listening and by giving me advice. Ever since I have met Debbie a smile comes on my face everytime i see her because she is in my opinion one of the most greatest people i know and she is like a 2nd mom to me. I dont know where id be at now if i didn't have the debutron in my life! but Happy 50th Birthday Debbie, may it be an awesome day and may it be filled with love and care from your family and friends.

  3. Happy 30th Debbie! My favorite memory would probably either be everyone getting together on new years or Emily, Josh, and I draining your pickles. Have a good one!

  5. My first memory of Debbie was when we worked for Burlington Northern Air Freight. I just started working the day shift, the phone rang and Debbie answered it "Sub Shop". She proceeded to take the person's order and hung up. She and Janice laughed and said people call here all the time thinking we are the Sub Shop; since our phone numbers are close we just take their orders. I couldn't believe sweet Debbie would do such a thing. It was very funny.

Another great memory was when Debbie, Guy and me were known as the doo waps. We had some great parties in those days and we three would
get in a line and dance like the Supremes in front of everyone. Of course several coctails were consumed before the dancing began.

Another fond memory was when Debbie, Vickie, Donna and me all went to Chicago to see Oprah. The show was about "shopping secrets". That was a letdown as we wanted to see someone famous but we had a great time and were all thrilled to see Oprah in person for the first time. We had so much fun we went again a couple years later.

  7. I have so many wonderful memories with you, Debbie. My most precious memory was when Sarah got her first perm, and people teased her and hurt her feelings, you made it all better and even let Sarah get her picture taken with Emily and Josh (my favorite picture). And when Sarah told Emily that the Tooth Fairy wasn't real, we sprinkled fairy dust in her bed and I wrote a letter from Tooth Fairy...Josh told the girl she was stupid because she didn't know that that was Fairy dust in his tornado bottle he made a school. You are the best, I always went to you when I didn't know what to do and you would make it better. Happy 50th Birthday! I hope it is as special as you are!

  9. Wow! Little Debbie is going to be 50. When she was born, I knew she was the most beautiful baby and she was mine. She must be, she was named after me, born in the same month. Her middle name was Lynn just like me. Debbie has always been one of the sweetest people that has ever walked this earth. When ever someone needs something Debbie is there with that beautiful smile and red hair with a bounce in her step making you feel like you are doing her a favor by letting her help you. She is fantastic and I am so proud and so in love with my little Reynolds cousin. So Debbie as the youngest Reynolds Cousin reaching 50 HAPPY BIRTHDAY. and what does that make the rest of us? I love you so much We are like the energizer bunnies and keep on going so I hope the next 50 are 10x more exciting then the last. Enjoy! Ask Orlando. I love you so much, I wish you the happiest of Birthdays.
    Love, Barb

  14. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EASTER BUNNY!!! :)
I have so many great memories-it was really hard to pick just one. However, it meant the WORLD to me when you and Emily came to see me in Chicago the first time I became a Rockette back in 2005. I think the funniest story was when the fake snow came down for 'Christmas in New York' and you thought for a split second the ceiling opened up and snow was falling on the audience! Hehe. So cute! But I have many great memories and I love you so much-you have been so supportive of me and I am truly grateful you and Emily are a part of my life! ooxx

  16. Debbie, You were the first to ever color my hair. (Thanks for not telling my mom!) I remember dying our hair in your kitchen and then practicing our line dances in the dining room! Indian Outlaw, anyone?!

  17. I have so many fun memories but my first great memory is when we moved here in 1981 Debbie offered to show me downtown Dayton. We decided I Should drive so I would learn my way around. We left as soon as we got Gabe off to school and don't you know it we got stuck in traffic on I-75, then the snow started and it wasn't just a little but a bunch of the white stuff. Finally traffic got moving and then we hit a detour which got us all turned around. We somehow made it to a downtown parking garage all the while the snow was piling up fast. We rode around and around the parking garage laughing our heads while our other son sat in back wondering what was going on. Don't you know we left Vandalia with a full tank of gas and by the time we pulled out of the parking garage which was about 4 hours later since we had left the tank was almost empty. We did stop the car in the parking garage and look out and decided we really did not know where we were and we had to get back. We are still laughing about it. I am so appreciative to Debbie to being my friend and taking me on an adventure. There is not a time that I go downtown that I do not start laughing and think of this little trip. It was a fun day in the car and Debbie was a great sport about it!

    Happy 50th Birthday!
    Hugs,
    Vickie

  18. This memory would actually be more of Debbie's memory of me, but I know it will make her laugh!
Banks was around 3 years old at the time and Aunt Debbie was coming over to take him along with Emily to McDonalds. Well I had taken Banks outside with me and Banks always loved to play in water and while I wasn't looking he went over picked up the hose and started spraying me with it. Evertime I tried to move towards him to take it away, he would start spraying me, just laughing his little head off. Not to mention, this wasn't a light spray it was on jet spray, so it kept me at a distance to say the least. So I continue to try and out maneuver this 3 year old, ducking behind trees and trying to get close to him, scolding him, by telling him if he doesn't put the hose down he won't get to go to McDonald's but to no avail. So about this time, Debbie pulls up in the driveway to see this scene playing out and me being held hostage by my 3 year old son with a garden hose!! I look over at Debbie who is sitting in her car laughing. So now Banks has a captive audience to show off in front of too!! I honestly can't remember how much longer it continued at this point, but I can tell you I was soaking wet and my son was completely dry! I believe at this point Debbie got out of the car, or maybe she was to chicken and stayed in the car for fear of being sprayed by my hose wielding son, but she said it was time to go to McDonalds with her and Emily and he put the hose down and went running towards her, at which point I grabbed him and said, I don't think so. No McDonald's for you today! Yes it was a tearful ending to his complete success of holding his mom at bay with a garden hose, but all little criminals most come to justice!! Not to mention at this point I look across the road to see my neighbor rolling on the ground laughing, saying he'd never seen anything so funny in his life!!!
Debbie, I wish you a Wonderful 50th Birthday and hope you have many, many more wonderful memories to come!

    Love You,
    Debbie

  19. I have a couple of memories with Debbie.

The first being, when she was married. Debbie asked me to take on the truly most important tasks of - 'Standing by the signature book '. and that was extremely difficult, because, during her reception, I was dancing with Dick Barton, and all of a sudden, I took a tumble. Now that was an important task !!

The 2nd memory of Debbie I have is when she was expecting Emily. She could not get over how many taco's she could eat at Taco Bell. I believe '7' was the magic number.

    Too Funny !

    Happy Birthday, Deb

    XOXO

  20. One of my best memories of Aunt Debbie was from my 21st birthday. Molly and I were going out, and Debbie got us drunk before we went out to get drunk! Then she made us recite back her phone number about 40 times to make sure we could call her if we needed a ride home.
She has been there for me anytime and everytime I have ever needed her. She's been a best friend, a second mom, a therapist, and the best darned aunt a girl could ask for!
Thank you, Auntie for being so awesome. I hope you know how much you are loved (and adored, just don't let it go to your head)!

    OXOXOXOX Jill

  21. Debbie....you are the best Aunt ever! No words can describe it. Cole and I loved you from the minute we saw you. You hold a very special place in our hearts and always will.
We all hope you have a very special 50th birthday.
Love you so very much, Jenni, Casey, Cole, and Noah

  22. It was Debbies first winter after she had gotten her drivers license. She came home with Dads Plymouth Duster with the drivers side fender smashed. When asked what happened , she said that she hit a pile of snow. As it turned out, that pile of snow just happened to be in front of a concrete divider wall I believe was on I75. Later on that week she came home with the passenger side fender now matching the drivers side fender. When asked what happened , she said she hit another pile of snow. I still do not know what was concealed behind that pile of snow. I have always been proud to have Debbie as my sister. Happy 50th!!! I Love You, Larry

  23. Well I thought about this and one story that I remember happened while we were remodeling the house back in the mid 90's.
I had been working on the Old Springfield house (we were still living in West Milton at this time) on a Saturday morning and Debbie and I had decided to go looking at bathroom, sinks, toilets, and fixtures that afternoon.
Well I think the rest of you had come over later in the morning and Debbie was doing some things around the house also. It was cold weather so we all had heavy sweaters and stuff on. But after working in the house we all looked like we had just fell off the potato wagon. All dusty with wood dust and other goodies hanging off our clothes.
However we were planning on looking around at normal some home improvement places and our dress did not really matter.
Well as usual one thing led to another and we ended up at a store that was run by a high end plumping company.
This particular plumbing company had done some work for my mom and dad and I remember at the time thinking they got a bit overcharged for the work. This company had also done some work for one of our neighbors and when I found out the cost of the job I again thought it was a bit to high.
But we thought we would stop at their showroom and look around just to see what they had.
So we go walking in looking like we were just a step above homeless (which at the time we were making 2 house payments and were close to being homeless as I remember) and Josh pulling his normal tricks when he is bored and wanting to be somewhere else and Emily was not at all thrilled about stopping at another home improvement store either so we were not the best looking customers when we walked in.
Well one of the owner/salesmen walks up and asks us what we are looking for. We tell them we are looking for bathroom fixtures, etc. and he starts to show us around.
The interior of the new house was more in Debbie's hands than mine. I knew she was better at the finished interior look than I was and I really only wanted to get the house done by this time so she was in charge of this department. I had done most of the electrical and building things I wanted and the finished interior was her business.
Well she saw some sink counter tops off to one side that caught her eye and she asked the salesman about them.
He looked at us and said "that we did not really need to look at them because it was out of our price range." That is almost exactly word for word what he said.
Well at that point I looked at her and said lets go, I've seen enough and had decided I was not going to be doing any business with this place and I did not want to go to jail so I thought it better if we just leave. But Debbie had this very weird look come over her and it was kind of evil and she walked around me and started in on the salesman.
She told him something to the effect that we were remodling a house and we would decide what we could afford and not afford. He asked her where we were remodeling at and she told him the address and he asked if we knew the "Piercey's of Old Springfield". She said yes that the "Piercey's of Old Springfield" were her inlaws.
Well his whole attitude changed and he started showing her these ungodly expensive counter tops made of artificial granite that were indeed out of price range.
At the same time I am thinking what is going on? She knows we can't afford that much on a counter tops???
But she still had this evil look on her and she just kept proding this salesman along and having him show her more of the "High End" stuff.
I starting to get very worried. I was thinking there is no way I am going to agree to any of this stuff. It was going to cost more than Emily's college tutition.
The whole time she is talking about being part of the Piercey's of Old Springfield and how she was going to have only the best fixtures in her house. And he is talking about how great "The Piercey's of Old Springfields" house is and so on.
I am thinking what is this clown talking about "The Piercey's of Old Springfield"? What is this load of crap all about. I don't know this idiot???
Then it slowly dawned on me that mom and dad had done business with this freak and he thought he had a big bank account he could drain.
Well she had him dancing around showing her all kinds of stuff and doing his best sales spiel. He even took us over and intrduced use to his wife and inlaws that worked there as being part of The Piercey's of Old Springfield family. At about this point I had walked away with Josh to look at a whirlpool or something. I told Josh to be ready to run. I said I don't think your mother is serious, but if I see any contracts come out or a checkbook emerge from her purse I will grab her and run out of here so be ready. I had never seen her act like this before and I was not sure how serious she really was. She had me fooled.
Well the salesman kept on and took her to a counter in the back of the store and started getting out catalogs and and brochures with all this high dollar stuff in it and she just kept playing him.
Finally after at least what seemed like an hour of this she starts to talk about leaving. I smile and say yeah we should be going and she tells this guy she will think about all of the stuff he has shown her and will be getting back to him. He is walking on air at this point.
I got out the door and before I could say anything she started cussing this guy and repeating words I cannot print here. "Who does he think he is telling me I can't afford his junk?" I have never been treated like that before and on and on.
We finally got into the car and she is ranting on and on and I said what are you doing?
She told me when he said we could'nt afford that stuff it pissed her way off and she just went off inside and figured she would just mess with him. So she had him working his butt off showing her stuff and running getting things for her to look at and treating her like she had just hit the lottery.
I started laughing and told her I was not sure what was going on, that she put on a great act as I was scared.
We started laughing and laughed about it for weeks. We went home and started chiding my mom and dad about being "The Piercey's of Old Springfield" and us being their inlaws.
Funny thing was this plumber came out to do some work for mom and dad at a later date or bid on some work I don't really remember right now, but whatever it was they pissed mom and dad off and that was the end of "The Piercey's of Old Springfield". LOL
I heard later that this company got into some sort of legal trouble and then there were some divorces in the group and the next thing you know they are out of business and gone.
But that was a great one Debbie pulled. She had everyone believing she was only going to order the best and it might be them if their stuff was good enough.
It was a great act and very funny after I was sure it was an act. LOL
    Happy Birthday Debbie.
    Jeff.

  24. This isn't something I actually remember, but I've been told about it a million times. When I was little, Aunt Debbie was sick with the flu, laying on grandma, and grandpa's couch. I wanted to play, but Debbie was too sick. So I dumped a glass of 7-up on her head. I think I'm probably the only person on this list to have had a whippin' from Aunt Debbie.

    Don't worry...I forgive you.
    Happy 50th birthday!

  25. "Happy Birthday Debbie! What I remember most is the first time I came to your house to meet the family, everyone was so welcoming but I do especially remember you. You made me feel right at home, I told Andy when we left that you were the most heart warming person ever. You made me feel like part of the family from day one! Thank you Debbie for making me feel like I'd always known ya- from the second I met you!!!
oh yeah- and that euker (i dont know how to spell that) tournament at your house was a great memory too- so much fun!"

  26. When I think of memories of my sister, skinned knees come to mind. It started with our home movies. If I heard it once I heard it a thousand times, "Look at Debbie, she fell down and skinned her knees!"
As years went by I found that you skinning your knees was not such a big deal. I used to think that you did it purpose to get attention and sympathy, but as you got older, I noticed that your knees were skinned, but you tried to cover it up, and not be noticed.
That's when I came to the conclusion -- you can't help it -- it's in your blood!
I've recently given a lot of thought to this calamity, lord knows why, but I have, and came up with this theory!
We are displaced hill people! Our gene pool consists of hillside farmers, coal miners, and moonshiners!
I admired you when you tried out for kickline, but Debbie, you should have known! Look at your brothers. No star athletes there.
We were pretty fair tree climbers and rock throwers, decent spitters, but put us in organized sports and things got confusing.
Kickline consists of flat ground with one leg up in the air. CMON! It takes at least two generations to get the hillbilly out.
Our kids are better than us, but still compromised. We do much better on inclines!

I couldn't ask for a better sister, I love you dearly!
    Happy 50th birthday,
    Bill
